Other Dance Forms
Ballet is the foundation of most other kinds of dance, and we encourage our students to start out with the “A-B-C’s” of dance that ballet provides. However, once they know the basics, we encourage our students to explore other dance forms.
Modern Dance is a 20th-century American rebellion against ballet. It is a dance form that is taught at most colleges and universities as well as at the Greenville County Schools’ Fine Arts Center and at the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities. Please refer to our Schedule for class times.
Jazz and Tap are other more recent dance forms which are not currently taught at the Greenville Ballet School.
Competition dance encourages students (and parents) to spend a lot of time and money participating in “competitions” to win trophies and recognition. Although this may be helpful to camaraderie and team-building, we feel that time is better spent concentrating on technical training.
